A look at some of Man United’s worst defeats

Yesterday’s drubbing by ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City was not the first time United suffered a huge defeat. There have been some memorable ones like the 5-0 drubbing by both Chelsea and Newcastle, and the 6-3 humdinger at St. Mary’s against Southampton’s with Saints legend Matt Le Tissier grabbing a scorcher of a goal, and more recently Liverpool handing United a 4-1 hiding at Old Trafford all stand out for the opposing fans. But, those results have now been overshadowed by City’s showing and will surely be a record that will be hard to beat in future.

United also recently handed sorry Arsenal a harsh lesson with a 8-2 thumping earlier this season only to suffer similar fate by a rampant City yesterday afternoon team, and who now lead the English Premier League table by a clear five points. Sir Alex Ferguson has already challenged his players to use this as motivation to bounce back and show everyone they still have the pedigree to be crowned champions for a record 20th time.

Only time will tell I guess but it makes for a very interesting season as we head into the busy part of the schedule in the league when games come thick and fast. Do you think City can maintain their league run or will United bounce back against Everton over the weekend?
