Arsenal: Premier League 2011-12 preview

Arsenal will find it even harder this season now with their key players on the brink of leaving the Emirates. Samir Nasri looks set to join rivals Manchester City, whilst Cesc Fabregas could be pulling on a Barcelona shirt before the new Premier League season kicks off. It’s a massive void that  Arsene Wenger needs to fill as he won’t be able to address the situation overnight. Step up Jack Wilshere and Aaaron Ramsey – they could possibly make the two central midfield positions their own. Then again there isn’t anyone else that could make the grade that would make Arsenal a threat.

Wenger has a young squad and will need to sign experienced cover in defence if he is to mount any challenge this season. Scott Dann seems to be the first choice only because of his lower asking price. With the funds coming in for Nasri and Fabregas the club will need to make a point by splashing the cash on further re-inforcements in the shape of England centre-half Gary Cahill, and West Ham’s wiley midfielder, Scott Parker. Both seasonsed campaigners that can hit the ground running and will at least save Arsenal’s season from being a failure as they seem to be heading on a downward spiral with the fans already booing the players after a shocking second half of last season.

Robin van Persie is expected to lead the team now with Cesc on his way, and he will need to stay fit if Arsenal are looking to make a good start. Gervinho hit two on his debut but he’ll be under pressure to perform now after a disappointing showing from fellow front men Bendtner and Chamakh.

Key Player: Jack Wilshere

Prediction: 5th
