Top players available on a free transfer next summer

xabi-alonsoThere are some great free signings available next summer and I’m sure most of them will be snapped up come the end of January 2014. Most of them are house-hold names and will generate a huge amount of interest when they become available on a Bosman. I’ve chosen my starting XV from the list below. Who would you choose?

Keeper: Vakdes

Defenders: Sagna, Vidic, Terry, Heitinga

Midfielders: Alonso, Carrick, Pirlo, Menez

Strikers: Lewandowski, Diego

Victor Valdes – The Barcelona keeper has publicly admitted that his time in Spain is coming to an end and that he wants to play in a different league. The smart money is on Valdes to join the Ranieri revolution at Monaco.

Igor Akinfeev – The goalkeeper has been at CSKA Moscow for yonks, over 10 years. His contract runs out at the end of the season – could he replace Valdes at Barcelona?

Bacary Sagna – With Carl Jenkinson looking good as a potential replacement, Sagna’s contract renewal talks at Arsenal are going very slowly, it looks like it could go either way at the moment.

.Nemanja Vidic – The Manchester United defender is out of contract at the end of the season, and Italian papers have reported that the club won’t renew his contract, and that he could go to Juventus.

John Terry – Out of contract at the end of the season, but would Jose Mourinho really let him go? He’s reportedly set for a new contract after a decent start to the season.

Johnny Heitinga – The Everton defender has been dropped to the club’s League Cup side this season, it looks likely he’ll move on at the end of the season when his contract is up. Could be a good back-up player in our squad.

Andrea Pirlo – A true legend of Italian football, and a key member of Juventus’ dominant squad last season. He has reportedly been contacted by Spurs about a move to the UK.

Michael Carrick – The marmite midfielder, some pundits love him, and some pundits… er, don’t. But the smart money is on Carrick to remain at Manchester United past the end of this season.

Xabi Alonso – The man with the beautiful beard. The 31-year-old Real Madrid midfielder is out of contract in June, he has been offered a one year extension but no deal has been struck.

Tomas Rosicky – He’s been at Arsenal for nearly eight years now, and had his contract extended in 2012. It runs out in June 2014 but he could be offered a one or two year extension by Wenger.

Blaise Matuidi – Highly talented PSG midfielder could pull in a big transfer fee, but with his contract running out at the end of the season, the Paris club might not be in the driving seat when it comes to demanding a high price.

Jeremy Menez – Another midfielder whose contract is up at the end of the season, he was linked to Liverpool this summer but PSG kept hold of him.

Tom Ince – He’s wanted by a number of clubs, but he’s stuck with his dad at Blackpool. Surely June will be when he makes the move to a big club though?

Lewandowski – Signed a four year contract at Borussia Dortmund in 2010, which runs out next summer. After it looked likely he would be going to Bayern Munich at the end of last season, it all fell through, but could he be moving on next year?

Samuel Eto’o – Signed a year-long contract at Stamford Bridge, the way it’s going so far, it’ll be a miracle if he stays any longer than June.

Diego – The Brazilian hasn’t been prolific for Wolfsburg so far this season, and his contract expires at the end of the season.
