Fulham remove Michael Jackson statue at Craven Cottage

michael-jackson-statueFulham have removed the controversial Michael Jackson statue from outside Craven Cottage.

The statue was erected outside the Hammersmith Stand in April 2011 by the request of former owner Mohammed Al Fayed in response to the singer’s death in 2009.Al Fayed told fans against his decision to “go to hell”, however new owner Shahid Khan, who took over in July, decided to have the statue pulled down after a consultation with supporters.Khan last week said: “Our supporters’ views on the statue have been made clear.”I respect Mr Al Fayed and know he had good intentions in paying an individual tribute. However, the removal of the statue is the right thing for Fulham Football Club.”It is understood Fayed has received offers for the statue of the legendary pop singer and could auction it for charity.

Jackson was once a guest of the Egyptian millionaire to watch Fulham take on Wigan 10 years ago, but never returned to watch a second match.
