Luis Suarez intends to watch Ajax play Man United at Old Trafford

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier LeagueLuis Suarez intends to make a sensational visit to Old Trafford to watch his former club Ajax play Manchester United on Thursday night.

People Sport can reveal that Suarez, Public Enemy No.1 with United fans after his explosive race row with Patrice Evra, has accepted a ticket to the Europa League clash from pals at Ajax, the club he left to join Liverpool last January.

Suarez last week issued a statement apologising for his refusal to shake Evra’s hand before last Saturday’s Premier League clash with United, and has told his former Ajax team-mates he intends to watch the second leg of the tie, which United lead 2-0.

An Ajax player said: “Luis still has a lot of friends at Ajax and sees no reason why he shouldn’t go to Old Trafford.”

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed Suarez “could have started a riot” with his handshake snub to Evra, the victim of the racial abuse for which Suarez served an eight-match ban.

United will not be happy at learning of Suarez’s potential attendance and are likely to urge Ajax to advise the player not to turn up over fears of crowd trouble.

The Premier League champions had issued a statement last Sunday, welcoming apologies from Suarez, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish and managing director Ian Ayre over the handshake snub.

Both clubs had hoped that round of statements would put an end to a vitriolic saga, dating back to a 1-1 draw at Anfield in October. But Suarez’s intention to return to Old Trafford as a spectator are only likely to re-open wounds.
