Ferguson Set to bring £18m Winger to Old Trafford

Alex Ferguson is looking at brining former Chelsea star Arjen Robben to Old Trafford as a replacement to Ryan Giggs.

Robben enjoyed a successful spell in England with Chelsea winning two Premier League titles, two League Cup medals and an FA Cup during the three years he spent at the West London club.

Manchester United boss, Ferguson is an admirer of the Dutch international and sees Robben as a perfect replacement for the aging Giggs.

Robben’s current club Bayern Munich are currently fourth in the German Bundesliga, one point off the Champions League places.

The 27-year-old winger has put the Old Trafford manager on red alert after comments made in the German press.

“I cannot imagine playing in the Europa League,” Robben said. “That is the worst that can happen. I think it is better if you don’t play in it at all.

“Even winning the Europa League would not mean anything for me. That is not the title you want to win and it is not something I want.”

If Bayern, who sacked Louis van Gaal after the weekends 1-1 draw with Nuernberg fail to make next years Champions League a host of players could be sold.

The Dutch winger has made 14 appearances for the club this season scoring 10 goals in all competitions.

Ferguson is keeping a close eye at the goings on at the German club and is ready to make an offer of around £18millon for Robben.
