Cristiano Ronaldo says he would love to face Man United in CL final

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he would regard the chance to play Manchester United, his former club, in the final of the Champions League as his dream finale to the season.

Real Madrid’s 5-0 aggregate victory over Tottenham has set up an ‘El Classico’ semi-final against Barcelona, with Manchester United now clear favourites to progress past Schalke in the other half of the draw.

Ronaldo has not faced United since leaving in his world-record £80 million transfer in 2009, but his name is still occasionally chanted at Old Trafford in respect of six seasons which included winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Champions League and two League Cups.

“I want to play Manchester United,” said Ronaldo. “If you ask me now if I want to sign up to play for Real Madrid against Manchester United in the final at Wembley then of course I will. That would make me very, very happy. I’ve still got a lot of friends there, memories, and I’d love that to happen. I had six great years there.”

Ronaldo, though, knows that Real Madrid will start second favourites against a Barcelona team who thumped them 5-0 earlier in the season.

“The final seems a very long way in the future,” he said. “I don’t like the word revenge. At the moment, we are the best two teams in the world. It will make everyone in the world sit up and watch the game. We have improved and we have to believe we can do it.”
