Rio Ferdinand sparks CIA security alert at the White House

Rio Ferdinand sparked panic in the White House after taking souvenir photos of the President’s security men – and posting them online.

England’s centre-half, 32, was touring Barack Obama’s Washington home with his Man United team-mates when he became too snap happy, it emerged yesterday.

Worse still, he then uploaded the pictures to social networking site Twitter – with the jokey message: “The security needs beefing up here at the White House….!!”

Moments later the defender was spooked to find the snaps had been mysteriously deleted.

Dad-of-three Ferdinand was forced to admit he goofed after realising the Secret Service probably took a dim view.

He said in a running commentary to his Twitter fans: “My pic of the security was removed quick, rapido, sharpish, fast.”

He went on to compare it to a scene in the counter-terror thriller 24 – exclaiming: “They don’t play here in DC. I feel like I’m on 24 right now.” Other snaps – including one of himself in the White House dining room – were ignored.

The team was due to meet the President during their pre-season tour of America but he was called away to attend to official business at the last minute. Man U boss Sir Alex Ferguson said of the White House trip: “I’d been before but it still excites.

“It’s such a historic and incredible place.”
